Interview: Q & A With Katie Cazorla

A few months ago, I got an email to do a Q & A with Katie Cazorla from The Painted Nail. How exciting! Below Katie talks about how to care for your nails, how to make a homemade sugar scurb and what tends are in this season.

What are you wearing on your nails right now?
K: Glitter over one coat of clear soak-off gel

Do you ever go bare nails for an extended period of time?
K: Never – nails are my favorite accessory

Let’s talk about thin, weak nails. I myself suffer from this.  They grow so long and beautiful and then they break, even when using a nail strengthener. What causes this? What can be done about it?   And can it be prevented?
K: It’s either genetics or lack of maintenance. Even wearing a top coat of clear polish helps strengthen your nails and keeps them from breaking.

With winter right around the corner, what can we do to keep our hands from drying completely out? What products do you recommend?
K: Always use cuticle oil! Moisturize daily and exfoliate with a nice sugar scrub.

For us budget gals, are there any homemade remedies that we can try to combat the dry winter weather?
K: Take olive oil and brown sugar and rub it into your hands. Voila! A homemade sugar rub!

What is the biggest problem you see come through your salon?
K: Bad cuticles! They can really make or break a good manicure. Cuticle oil is a nail necessity.

How important is cuticle care? To cut or not to cut?
K: Always trim excess skin to avoid hangnails and NEVER cut live skin.Salon treatments.

What should we look for when getting them?
K: Always look for sanitization of the salon for your protection.

How often do you recommend a professional treatment?
K: I recommend a mani every week, but you can do this at home. Come to a salon every 2-3 weeks for a professional treatment.

What are some of the color trends we will be seeing this season?
K: Tangerine is so in and turquoise with glitter.

Do you chase the polish trends when doing your own nails, or do you just go with whatever you feel up to wearing?
K: The Painted Nail is considered a pioneer in the nail world and we are a leading salon for trends, but make your nails your own. Have fun with them!

What are some of your staple products?
K: The Painted Nail Sugar Cookie Cuticle Oil and The Painted Nail Vanilla, Cranberry Shimmer Crème.

Your salon is not like any salon I’ve ever seen. I like that it is very girlie. Also a lot of them don’t tailor to children. What made you decide that The Painted Nail was not going to be your standard nail salon?
K: Every woman deserves better than the “typical” nail salon. You are paying for a professional treatment and your service should be a great experience. Almost a vacation getaway.

Now the new collection is out and I was looking at it on The Painted Nail website and the colors are ridiculously amazing.  This collection was a little different being that the fans got to name the polishes instead of celebrities. Why did you decide to go that route?
K: I like to involve my fans – they are SO much fun. There is something special about having polishes named after fans. It’s special to them and special to me.

Can we expect a second season of The Painted Nail? If so, when?
K: Stay tuned!
